Hokies Take Care of the Profs, 5-2
Brendan Walsh tallied two points to lead Virginia Tech to a 5-2 victory over Rowan.
Virginia Tech put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rowan to score on any of its three power plays. The Hokies put up 20 shots on net.
Virginia Tech also got points from Greg Kubrak, who registered one goal and one assist. The Hokies also got a goal plus the empty netter to seal the deal from captain Alexander Hashmi. More assists for Virginia Tech came via Alec Burgman, Max Grande, Peter Veltri, Brian Peak, Felipe Rodriguez, and Doug MacDonald, who contributed one each.
Rowan was held below its usual level of production. M2 Rowan University averages 4.9 goals per game. M2 Rowan University's offense was clicking better than usual and put 22 shots on goal during the game.
The Profs were helped by Mike Mcgahey, who grabbed one goal. Mcgahey scored 1:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rowan. Tyler Schickner picked up the assist. Brian Keller also scored for the Profs.
Tanner Jones made 20 saves for Virginia Tech on 22 shots. The Hokies incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cody Reilly recorded 15 saves for Rowan. The Profs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
